How to measure a box

How To Measure Your Box Correctly

To measure a box, you will need to use a ruler or measuring tape to measure the length, width and height of the box. Listed dimensions are always internal dimensions and measured in millimetres. When providing dimensions it needs to be in the correct order of Length x Width x Height. This is industry standard (L x W x H)

IMPORTANT

Units are always in millimeters

The order of measurements needs to be Length x Width x Height

Measuring a Shipping Box (RSC)

  1. The first dimension to measure is length (a). The Length is the panel below the opening of the box
  2. The next dimension is width (b). The width has no flaps, and it’s the side panels
  3.  Measure the height of the package (c). Height is the only dimension without a flap. Measure the standing side of the box from top to bottom. The height measurement does not include flaps.

Measuring A Mailer Box

Measuring A Tuck In Top & Bottom

  1. The first dimension to measure is length (a). Length is always the side of the box that has a single long flap.
  2. The next dimension is width (b). The width side also has a flap, but is always the side shorter than the length. (there are 2 of these flaps which are called dust flaps)
  3. Measure the height of the package (c). Measure the standing side of the box from top to bottom. The height measurement does not include flaps.

Measuring a Spare Parts Box

  1. The first dimension to measure is length (a). Length is always the longest side of the box
  2. The next dimension is width (b).
  3. Measure the height of the package (c). Measure the standing side of the box from top to bottom.

Measuring Carry Handle Box

  1. The first dimension to measure is length (a). Length is always the longest side of the box
  2. The next dimension is width (b).
  3. Measure the height (c) of the package. Measure the standing side of the box from top to bottom. Don’t measure the carry handle. The dashed area is the usable box area that is measured.

Measuring a Sleeve

  1. The first dimension to measure is length (a). Length is always the longest side of the box
  2. The next dimension is width (b).
  3. Measure the height (c) of the package. Measure the standing side of the box from top to bottom. Don’t measure the carry handle. The dashed area is the usable box area that is measured.

Measuring A Box & Lid

  1. The first dimension to measure is the length (a) of the base
  2. The next dimension is the width (b) of the base
  3. Measure the height (c) of the package
  4. Do the same for the lid
